A life time of passion, soul and very funky music, thank you for the music, funk, groove and soul…

Everything in my life evolves around soul and passion, my DJaying is no exception. From a very early age I had an interest and passion for uplifting soulful funky music. Philadelphia artists like Jean Carne, The O’Jays, Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass through to Frankie Knuckles, Joey Negro, Dennis Ferrer, MK, the list goes on and on. There are so many great artists in every decade, I specialize in tailoring my DJaying style to some of the very finest funky soulful music ever produced, thus always creating a truly uplifting atmosphere on the dance floor.

I have been very fortunate over the years to have worked with famous artists and been resident DJ in some very respected night clubs, bars and music venues. From my mid teenage years I was working along side many of the Radio 1 DJs, Simon Bates, Dave Lee Travis, John Dean who provided the Radio 1 Road Show. This was a great start to my DJaying career being able to DJay and be part of the Radio 1 road shows, 18-30 reunion parties, meeting many 80s stars like Phil Fearon and Galaxy, Alexander O’Neil and Steve Walsh. I was also privileged to know and be a good friend of legendary Caister soul DJ Froggy (Steven Howlett), I would often repair Froggy’s DJ equipment (MATAMP SUPER NOVA’S) and (QUAZER 1000 POWER AMPLIFIERS) back in the 80s. Froggy would always pass on his very sought after 12″ white label remixes, many of which I still play today. DJ John Dean another close friend of mine mapped my early DJaying days. I will always be thankful for the introduction to many of the Radio 1 celebrities back in the mid 1980s, they were truly wonderful days that I will always cherish.

The mid to late 80s was a great time for soul music, groups like BB&Q Band, SOS Band, Loose Ends and artists like Luther Vandross, Gwen McCrea, Chuka Khan, Joycelyn Brown, were truly amazing with there silky soul vibes. This was a very influential time for me being surrounded with all this fantastic soul music. The Soul DJs of that ere were also very influential, Greg Edwards, Robbie Vincent, Froggy, Chris Hill all played a massive part in the music, passion and love I have today in uplifting a funky dance floor.  Night clubs back in the late 80s were extremely popular, Kings, Ilford Pails, Room at The Top, Hollywood’s, Secrets night club would always have endless ques of party people dancing the night away to these timeless funky old skool tunes. Ilford Pails was one of the largest night clubs in the East of London, I would often visit  this club in the late 80s as it had a certain magic that was hard to find in other night clubs.

Bob Peacock back in the late 80s was the main Ilford Pails DJ,  I became friendly with Bob and admired Bobs DJaying style. There was no other DJ quite like Bob Peacock, his DJaying style was truly unique and his knowledge for music is off the scale. I am very proud to say Bob & I are very close friends and still get together 2 or 3 times a month discussing music and enjoying a beer or two. As a young DJ I would warm up for Bob at Ilford Pails (Friday & Saturday nights), playing many funky 12inch vinyl grooves, always excited for the first girls to make a move on to that huge Ilford Pails dance floor. I would be playing records such as Shalama (There It is), Booker & Newbery III (Love Town), Evelyn Champagne King (I’m In Love / Personal Touch), Band AKA (Joy / Grace), omg what an atmosphere those days had with great soul vibes. In 1988 Bob Peacock was then offered a new job role and became night club manager of the legendary Penthouse night club (Room at the Top)  in Ilford town centre. Bob kindly offered me my first Friday and Saturday night club DJ residency at the Penthouse which I gladly accepted. Every weekend I would rock that dance floor till 2am with non stop club classics, ensuring that dance floor always had an uplifting happy atmosphere. Ilford town centre was a real party zone back in the late 80s. I also DJayed in various other night clubs,  Fairlop Waters Night Club and Midnights.

As the 1980s drew to an end and we had the 1990s to look forward too, I found myself DJaying in various venues and even be asked to DJ the Epping Forest Country Club Staff Parties by the legendary Country Club DJ and close friend of mine DJ El Tel. Those Epping Forest Country Club parties were off the scale! The staff Skinny Dipping in the pool at 3am while I was playing vinyl round the pool side, omg, there were no other staff parties like the Epping Forest Country Club parties. I was still resident DJ at the Penthouse in Ilford, when in 1991 the Penthouse had a refit and relaunch with new manager (Ray Taylor) and the club had a new name, Magnums Night Club. Magnums was a great club and always busy with a feel good vibe on the dance floor, the club had new doorman and bar staff. I’m still friendly with some of the door team today (Gary & Brian). Back then Magnums was the newest glitziest club in Ilford and I was privilege to be the resident DJ of Magnums night club until Mid 1993.

An exciting new change was just around the corner, out of nowhere I was offered a Saturday night residency at the Epping Forest Country Club. My close friend DJ El Tel was getting married and he offered me his Saturday Night. The Country Club was a totally different club to the night clubs in Ilford. I was up for the challenge and couldn’t wait to rock that dance floor. The music was totally different to most night clubs, as a DJ working at the Epping Forest Country Club, you had to have you finger on the pulse and have in your collection the very best, very latest club vinyl. The records and music played at the Country Club were way out in front of most other night clubs of that era, the Country Club was truly the place to be and leading the way with the very best club anthems. I can honestly say the Country Club days, and the 90s Club Classics that were all on vinyl provided me with some of my fondest DJ memories. The Country Club had such a friendly family of staff, everyone was fun to be around,  it was like an extended family and never felt like work. Before long I was offered Wednesday nights in addition to my Saturday evening residency at the Country Club, that boasted the very best Over 30s night called Lilly Cigars. Lilly Cigars on a Wednesday evening was a fantastic night, always
